         I was living out in New York when I got my first real photography gig.
 A friend of mine (that I worked with at a local school) saw some of my
work and asked me to shoot a few portraits of her. At first, I was reluctant.
 I’d only taken pictures of family, pets, and scenery on my travels; but with some persuasion I agreed.
That small decision became a defining point in my life and career. It seemed implausible that a hobby that I
 loved so much could evolve into a lifelong profession. I of course continued working at the
 same job in the school (that I enjoyed but did not love) for the next few years thinking...
“There’s got to be more to my life than this.” Thankfully, I was right. A few months later
I quit my job, moved back home, and finished my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in photography,
 at the University of Michigan.
    Since those days in NY, some have said I’ve led a type of “charmed life”. Those people are right.
 I was asked to teach photography and set up a darkroom for the Flint Institute of Art. In addition, I’ve
been lucky to have my work featured in advertisements, cafés, and galleries throughout New York
and Michigan.
   Eight years later, I think about what my life would be like if I would have refused that job. What a
 privilege it has been to  photograph so many fascinating people, to watch their personalities unfold
and develop in front of my camera, and to be right there to document it. Yes, life does go by in a flash.
 Let me create a lasting image in one.
